San Marino: Serhat – Say Na Na Na

San Marino has served up another disco treat for Tel Aviv with Serhat's Say Na Na Na! The thing I'm looking forward to most are the remixes of Say Na Na Na - this is the sort of song Eurovision was made for. People might scoff at San Marino, but Serhat's song has shaken up the second half of semi-final 1. By the time viewers have sat through a first half of Slovenia, Montenegro, Serbia and Finland, then endured a double-whammy of Portugal and Iceland, I reckon they might be quite fond of Serhat's retro disco. Back in 2016 Serhat was…
Song Appeal
Vocal Strength
Staging Potential
Likely Televote Appeal
Likely Jury Appeal

Yes Yes Yes

I wouldn't totally discount them from sneaking into the final.

Back in 2016 Serhat was over 70-points adrift of qualification. Semi-1 isn’t setting any musical records and Say Na Na Na is more of an earworm than I Didn’t Know. If San Marino can put together a competent stage show without Serhat looking like he’s borrowed his suit from the Foxy Bingo advert, I wouldn’t totally discount them from sneaking into the final.

  1. Catchy entry but any sane juror will have this ranked very low unless there’s some Doredos style brilliant staging. Not impossible to qualify but more likely to miss out.
3 and a half stars for vocal strength a bit generous.

  2. Granted it’s better than his previous effort but, as Hippo says, juries won’t touch it and even in semi 1 televoters have several better options.

This could conceivably qualify if San Marino modernises the production, throws money at the staging, and replaces Serhat with someone who can sing, none of which will happen – so NQ.
