Serbia: Nevena Božović – Kruna

Nevena Božović won Beovizija 2019 and will represent Serbia with the song Kruna. Returning to the traditional Balkan ballad should help Serbia corner the regional vote this year. As a Eurovision song, Kruna is a tad aimless and fails step on the gas until quite late in the song. The staging and styling needs to take a big step forward to ensure Serbia are able to exploit their traditional voting allies in the first semi-final, though this should be easy to sort out. I understand the ballad has a subtle rocky edge, yet I would be tempted advise Nevena to soften her…

Kruna looks a fairly safe qualifier based on what we’ve seen so far; however, those improvements are required put any doubts to bed.

  1. This is quite a nice one but is too dull to do much outside of the balkans and the diaspora. It also wins the award for most unnecessary English lyrics. With more appropriate styling for the genre and tighter staging Serbia could come close to qualifying but a first half draw is not ideal and could be what does for them. Nq for now.

  2. This bog-standard Eurovision ballad really bored me. At least the Georgian song had some passion. Given the dearth of quality in this year’s field, qualification can’t be ruled out, but at the moment, like Hippo, I’m struggling to see it garnering support from outside Serbia’s usual allies.

  3. Actually, is Hungary in part not Balkan too? Regardless of that, my gut feeling tells me that the ex-Yugoslavian nations will especially drawn to the Hungarian entry. The man, even solo on stage, has this kind of charisma and X-Factor that’s still magnetic enough to make Hungary score better than Serbia.

  4. Is this really a traditional Balkan ballad or just a standard middle of the road Eurovision ballad that happens to be sung in Serbian?

  5. Im not ready to forgive her for costing me a monkey in the Moje 3 costume debacle. This should do ok in the region and it seems that must be what they are hoping for.She has matured into a really good singer. There wont be a shilling for or against though until i see what shes wearing.Once bitten.
