San Marino: Jessika (feat. Jenifer Brening) – Who We Are

San Marino's novel 1in360 selection show has delivered a result. Jessika (feat. Jenifer Brening) will perform Who We Are in the first half of semi-final 2. As Dan noted over at Sofabet, this year is packed with lazy 'whoa whoas' and San Marino has spawned the worst of them. The rapper, Jenifer Brening, used to be produced by the guy who runs 1in360. Add in some of that famous Maltese voting and well what did you expect from one of Eurovision's rotten boroughs? What a waste of 5-months! Come back Siegel! Has San Marino just thrown away their second qualification chance?

  1. Most certain non-qualifier bet my house this will not make it.
Sara de blue came 2nd should have won and could have qualified

  2. It’s repetitive, not the most lyrically expressive ever and is fairly generic but it’s not that bad. I didn’t watch any of their selection thing so don’t know if they had anything better but this is San Marino we are talking about- they can be happy enough with this. As for qualification, this is pretty clear to miss out with a first half draw and no voting power, but it won’t embarrass them with a minuscule score.

  3. Given that this is a winner’s reprise and the amateurish setting and staging, it’s easy to be critical. But actually I think there’s not a bad song hiding in there given an improved production, staging and a more polished professional performance from Jessika. Will we get these improvements? San Marino’s budget and track record don’t give too many grounds for optimism. NQ.

  4. The rap in this is hilarious, reminds me so much of Wannabe by Spice Girls.

  5. While I don’t see a whole lot of appeal in this song personally, I do think that it might pass in semi 2 when up against multiple less accessible songs in less widely spoken languages from Slovenia, Montenegro, Serbia, Georgia and Hungary. I also think that the 20 second following the rap, depending on staging, could be key during the voting recaps after all songs have been preformed. It could stand out in the short burst as anthemic if it is far enough from Romania.

  6. Yikes. I get the feeling Maltese telly turned this one down and so here she is. They’d have sailed into the final with Sara de Blue (I didn’t hear any of the others,) but it will be interesting to see this format continue for San Marino with tightened rules, as it’s given them access to a good pool of talent, and the inevitable non-qualification this year will spur that on.

  7. Gan said is perfectly, I was actually hyped for San Marino and in the end its just as poor as usual…

  8. I feel sorry for San Marino. It seems this year they’ve been trying harder than before and still nothing good came out of it. I wish they don’t lose faith and participate next year though.

  9. The face Jessika pulls at 2.30 would turn milk sour.At least this has some comedy value. My only hope is someone buys her a bra for ESC.
