Georgia: Nika Kocharov & Young Georgian Lolitaz – Midnight Gold

Georgia have just chosen their song for Eurovision having previously internally selected Nika Kocharov & Young Georgian Lolitaz as artists. Bizarrely, the winning song, Midnight Gold, received 1,310 televotes, 1,168 more than the next best supported song, which suggests the vote may have been... erm... influenced. The group will now record the final version of Midnight Gold at the Red Bull Studios in Berlin. This is quite a competent song from Georgia. Unluckily for Nika Kocharov & Young Georgian Lolitaz, Midnight Gold has been entered into the wrong contest. There's bound to be a little bit of jury love for this song, but we're talking…
Song Appeal
Vocal Strength
Staging Potential
Likely Televote Appeal
Likely Jury Appeal
Cohesiveness of Package

Golden Shower

Given Georgia are in the larger of the two semi-finals, their chances of qualification are all the more difficult.

There’s bound to be a little bit of jury love for this song, but we’re talking about a 12th or 13th place ranking at best, rather than something capable of overturning what will be a low televote score. Had the song being more contemporary, or chart worthy, we may have been looking at a borderline qualifier. Given Georgia is in the larger of the two semi-finals, their chances of qualification are all the more difficult.

Will 2016 be another struggle for Georgia?

  1. Sad face. Would’ve loved to hear We Agree in Stockholm. I hope they record it in Berlin at least.

  2. They where doomed when this band was chosen. I think we can now for sure put it in the NQ pile with Switzerland,Belgium,Belarus. Unless they can totally save the song with a good remix!!!

  3. Dunno, there’s never been this kind of music at Eurovision. We can’t really know how the juries will react to this. Televote is dead though.

    • If the tele vote is dead than so are this songs chances of qualifying.

      • I think there’s a very small chance the juries give it a huge push. But I do have to agree with you, at this moment it’s an obvious non-qualifier.

        • If it gets a similar tele vote to there last 2 NQ’s (both last in the semi in tele voting) then it would need a top 3 in the jury to stand a chance. I would need to do as well as Nina did in the jury last year in the semi except against an extra 3 songs…I just don’t see it and if the juries don’t tank it I only see it borderline at best…but given how mediocre this year has been who knows!!!

  4. Probably the best song selected so far, although I’m not sure many ESC fans will disagree. This will always be rated poorly up until the actual show, and we’ll see what people outside the bubble think of it.

  5. I like it and fair play to Georgia for bringing something different again. Sadly can’t see it in the final at all and I think the juries will hate it, maybe even more than the televote. I’ll guess 15th in semi for now.

Bumping this due to the vastly improved final version. This has a chance of qualification now.
