Albania: Elhaida Dani – I’m Alive

Having had her original song pulled by the composer, Elhaida retreated to the US to work on a new song. Tonight I'm Alive was made public. Elhaida will perform I'm Alive in second half of semi-final 1. I'm Alive is tamer, yet more radio-friendly than her previous song, Diell. What it lacks in the big moments, it adds with its contemporary arrangement and greater western appeal. Thankfully they've given I'm Alive a big ending to showcase Elhaida's stellar vocals - that should ensure Albania earns recognition from the juries. In my opinion, Albania will comfortably achieve qualification and should attract plenty of mid-points from Western leaning nations.

Albania are not hugely represented in semi-final 1, but they can at least call upon a few allies and a plumb second-half draw to help their qualification cause. In my opinion, they will comfortably achieve qualification and should attract plenty of mid-points from Western leaning nations. Going into the final, I could see Elhaida get 12th-18th, though I’m hoping for better from what is a well written song.

  1. She ditched an awful song only to get a bad one?
    That voice is getting wasted….

  2. It’s very Leona Lewis/Kelly Clarkson. She has an outstanding voice, but this song is missing a clear chorus. The first one’s a right let down, and the second one is just frantic and has too many layers of noise all trying to outdo each other. It has a nice feel to it though, a bit of grunt and soul lacking in many other songs this year, and it’s not too dissimilar to Albania’s first entry in 2004, so I would think qualification is on the cards.

  3. This might do very well. Its got a great production.Elhaida fits the narrative very well. She has some genuine class to deliver this. The power towards the climax should ensure some nice staging and camera work.On the Eurovision Youtube site this is getting really strong figures.Azer released at the same time has less than half the views.
Last year the delegation let down Hersi with a messed up rework and video. It seems they have learned their lesson and are trying to get things right. One to watch.

  4. I like this and I think this might have been overshadowed by the releases of the powerhouses of the eastern bloc at the same time. If it would have been the only song published at that day the odds should probably had gone @50-60

I agree with Durhamborn and think the production and the structure of the song is great. The chorus is very good but it would be a lot clearer and more accessible if the “but” would be cut of. I don’t see a reason for this extra praising and it just makes the melody messy. I don’t know if this is a major issue but it bugs my ears at least.

Overall a very solid entry and could do really well.

  5. Albania should stop using FiK to choose songs if this is what they’re capable of. I agree with Gav that it should get a respectable result, I mean her voice is stunning. I’m just not sure the chorus sticks out enough.

  6. Does no one think that this is a real dark horse? Granted it’s not the best song but the way that Elhaida delivers this will be crucial. Live vocal isn’t an issue here. I actually have this as a shock winner of SF1. Given Russia’s hyprocttical lyrics and lack of Western support (I have them down as 3rd in the semi) and Estonias good song but severe lack of chemistry and dull video, I currently have Albania to emerge from the pack and suprise and take the Semi by a very narrow margin.

  7. Albania live

  8. She’s good but I could do without the vocal gymnastics and over emoting. Also eye contact could be better at the start. Jury vote is solid, televote might need more persuading…

  9. Elhaida on X-Factor – Staging hint.
