Another essential album for your post-Eurovision shopping list has to be Anouk’s Sad Singalong Songs. OK, it’s not going to get you tapping your foot and it’s not recommended listening if you’re a recovering depressive.
Nevertheless, Sad Singalong Songs is a musical feast that continues in much the same form as Anouk’s Eurovision entry, Birds. The album is beautifully poised and painstakingly arranged to create a wonderful dreamy sound with complex cinematic qualities. I particularly enjoyed the bluesy Only a Mother, but it’s so difficult to pick a favourite from this very mature album.
