The Cypriot national final: A Song for Ivi Adamou, has selected the song La La Love. The internet polls were resounding in their support for this upbeat song. Why? I have absolutely no idea. This type of song always bombs at Eurovision. Why the people of Cyprus chose it when a song like ‘You don’t Belong Here’ was begging to be selected I’ll never quite fathom. It’s weak, lazy and actually quite boring for a dance entry. When will these people ever learn?
It is really quite disappointing when these selections choose perhaps the worst song due to the voting habits of youth. It’s moments like this that make internal selection more favourable, but then the BBC has never made a strong argument to support that stance.
Cyprus need a majorly spectacular dance routine to make even the slightest impact on the voting public. On top of that, they’ll need to pray for a late draw to progress any further. I’ve awarded this song two stars, which was generous. It really should be 1.5, but I’ll wait for a live performance when the wheels well and truly fall off!
Here’s a few acapella versions. A few bum notes there, but I’ll forgive her. Still unconvinced about her big stage live credentials. And if she was a fantastic singer, why does she continue miming on TV shows and national finals?
There are a few nightclub performances circulating the net, but the quality is rather poor. What you have to consider – and it’s something that worries me – is year after year, the countries that hide the live credentials of their singers tend to do it for a reason.
